The largest bear and largest land carnivore in the world, the not-so-cuddly polar bear reigns over the Arctic Circle. Due to his enthusiasm for seals, the polar bear is as happy in water as on land and is often called a marine mammal. In the 1920s, a polar bear called Peppy became the logo for Fox’s Glacier Mints; a taxidermist was asked to shoot and stuff a real polar bear that then toured the country visiting football matches to promote the mints. Later on Peppy found fame in television commercials. Now an endangered species, polar bears are highly regarded by the Inuit population.
