Lemurs are found only on the island of Madagascar and the Comoros Islands: there are nearly 100 species, but ours is the ring-tailed lemur. They are highly social, living in matriarchal packs and either huddling together or sunbathing, depending on the weather. The males will indulge in ‘stink fights’, impregnating their tails with their scent and wafting it at opponents. Lemurs are endangered due to habitat destruction and their main predator, the cat-like fossa.
